Treatment of retinal detachment
Retinal detachment is a very serious eye disease in which the retina (a thin layer of light–sensitive tissue on the back of the eye) peels off from the underlying tissue. In this case, starting the disease means losing your eyesight.
Types of retinal detachment.
Primary retinal detachment means that there is a hole or tear in the retina.
Secondary retinal detachment occurs when fluid begins to accumulate under the retina, without any opening in it. This process can begin as a result of inflammation, vascular pathology, or injury.
Traction retinal detachment is, in fact, the direct detachment of the retina.
Causes of retinal detachment.
In slightly more than a tenth of patients, retinal detachment is caused by trauma to the head or the eye itself.
• Cataract (clouding of the crystal) very often leads to retinal detachment (even after surgery).
• The occurrence of detachment in one eye should alert you – the other eye is at risk.
• The presence of myopia (or myopia) means a very high risk of detachment (about 70%), regardless of age.
There is a very high probability of retinal detachment in people with diabetes mellitus.
Symptoms of the disease.
The following symptoms may be present in the early stages:
• flashes of light around the perimeter of the field of vision;
• "floating" dark spots ("flies");
• heaviness in the eye area.
With the progression of the disease, there are:
• narrowing of the visual area;
• violations of the perception of clear lines, distortion;
• decreased visual acuity;
• hemorrhage in the vitreous cavity.
Diagnosis of the disease.
The diagnosis of retinal detachment is made based on a study of the patient's medical history, the symptoms described by him, an examination of the eye day using an ophthalmoscope and a mandatory ultrasound.
Treatment of the disease.
Retinal detachment is treated in various ways. The choice of a specific option depends mainly on the type of retinal detachment that doctors are dealing with.
Option 1. Using a special silicone oil injected into the eye, the detached portion of the retina is pressed against the epithelium. The oil is removed from the eye cavity after one year. This treatment method is effective for traction retinal detachment.
Option 2. Using a laser or liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy), micro-scars are formed in the rupture area, as a result, adhesions occur in this place, the rupture is tightened.
Option 3. Using silicone strips sewn on the outside of the eyeball, the retina is pressed against the epithelium. Such strips do not need to be removed. The disadvantage of this method is the development of myopia.
Option 4. A special gas bubble is inserted into the eye cavity. With the help of a laser or cold, adhesions are created at the rupture site. The patient's head is tilted so that the bubble presses exactly on the place of the rupture being eliminated. The disadvantage is that you have to keep your head in one position for a considerable time - up to several days, until the fiber is completely fixed.
Option 5. Removal of part of the vitreous fluid, often combined with the introduction of a gas bubble. The disadvantage of this method is the likelihood of cataracts. 1xbet 프로모션 코드
