Important: Coding options for the
Zika virus

Until the decision to use the proposed new code (A92.5 - Zika virus disease) is made by the World Health Organization coming up in October, the current options recommended by various organizations for coding are as follows:

Most Applicable ICD-10:  A92.8 "Other specified mosquito-borne viral fevers" which includes "Zika (viral)" in the list of fevers.

For pregnant women who have contracted the virus:  O98 "Maternal infectious and parasitic diseases classifiable elsewhere but complicating pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium" can be used.  This code series includes, O98.5 "Other viral diseases complicating pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium" along with additional characters to specify the trimester.

Please contact your insurance carrier before choosing a code. Keep an eye out for the outcome once the new update for ICD-10 is released in October!

Worried about getting HACKED??

With the risk of Healthcare Data Breaches and Ransomware becoming more and more prevalent just in the past 6 months, it is scary to think that these type of situations can happen.  Having a web-based auditing software is a risk to letting Hackers into your data.  Intelicode is not web-based; therefore, the security of your data in Intelicode is ultimately in your control!
